I just love sending out Christmas cards. Before the internet it was really a helpful way to stay in touch with family and friends far away, and often include a picture and a letter of the past years events.
Now with Facebook and Twitter, most friends and family get to see weekly if not daily pictures of the family.. especially the youngest. No need to really send out a letter either of the years' past events, they have all been documented from where I have eaten, who has been sick, and what newest shows we have seen at the theater. I'm sure they have heard more than they ever cared to on some occasions!
So why send cards this year? Everyone has seen the kids, they know my year in review. I could save the cost of stamps and cards by posting a generic Merry Christmas post on social media.
One reason I am sending them this year is to bless people with snail mail. For them to get something in the mail other than bills.
Secondly I purposely chose a card that truly reflects the meaning of the season. No Santa, or snowmen.. no offense to those who send those. I just really want everyone to have the right focus, especially my unsaved friends and family members.
Thirdly, this year I am doing something different. As I sign each card and put it in the envelope, I am praying for the family. I am covering them in prayer for needs I know, as well as asking the Spirit to work in ways I am unaware.
I pray when they get their Christmas Card it is much more than a fun gesture at Christmas time. That the recipient can feel the prayers and the love that is going into sending out cards this year. I am thankful I am able to send them, and able to cover each one in prayer. It has helped me focus my thoughts this Christmas as well.
