Kaplan #JourneytoCollege Are You Prepared?

I currently have one student beginning his 2nd year of college. He is attending a community college to earn his AA before continuing on to a larger college for his BA. He was our guinea pig so to say. Though Hubby and  I both went to college and graduated with a Bachelors degree, we were really unsure as a homeschooling family, how to best approach college preparedness.
Much of what we learned when we were young, through the guidance counselor at school.
As the homeschool Mama, guess what?? That role falls on me and quite frankly, it is scary!

We now have a senior in high school, and this go around I want to be more prepared, and prompt on following much needed time lines to best help my 2nd son get ready to head to college.

The KapMap is a month to month guide on getting into college. It starts with the Freshman year in high school. No need to wait until they are ready to graduate to start prepping!  I can actually use this with both my Senior and my Sophomore as well as my continuing college student. What a jackpot of information for our family!

For now though, I need to focus on the Senior and make sure we are following the plan. We may even have to back up to Junior year to make sure we didn't miss anything on the way.

The KapMap has links within the map that helps explore more in depth the things we should be doing. For example, right now we should be looking at college application deadlines. By clicking on that link, we are taken to a plethora of information on tips and suggestions to get us started.

Before checking out the KapMap I was feeling overwhelmed and really unsure about where to start. The Kaplan program is incredibly helpful as we gear up to send off our second student.

This program has an incredible amount of information!

I am hopeful that this program will help take some of the planning pressure off of myself and my son as we enjoy this last year with him at home. I truly want to make the college selection process something enjoyable for him, rather than overwhelming. If I can use this KapMap as a tool, that will de-stress the Mom, helping to achieve that goal for my son.

If you have a student in High School you will definitely want to check out this free program! Pass the word along and help de-stress your fellow parents.

  1. I'm not sure you are ever really prepared, but it's good to look at things like this. I'm glad these courses and sites are out there to help kids and parents get a view of what it's like. They also give helpful tips and quizzes to get kids really thinking and help them with the process.
