Sweet Andy's Cookies *Review

Sweet Andy's Cookies have my Grandma's Cookies beat!!  Well, everyone except for her oatmeal raisin!
What started out as a "Thank You" cookie to friends and neighbors who helped the family out during a rough patch, became a booming business with fantastic, unique cookies.

These are not the cookie to get if you are trying to diet, or watch your consumption of sweets. They are too good to put down! Hearty cookies in a fantastic variety. I received 6 different types of cookies in my box, 5 in each stack. I did share with the family and they were just in love with these cookies as I was!

The Triple Chip was one of my favorites. I love cookies with chips and extra treats in them. These had 3 different chips for extra sweet goodness. They have 12 different kinds of cookies.

 Chocolate Chip
Triple Chocolate Chip
Chocolate
Lemon
Cinnamon Sugar
Peanut Butter Chip
Oatmeal Raisin
Sugar
Pumpkin
Mint Chip
Chocolate w/peanut butter
White Chocolate Macadamia Nut

This cookie had to easily be one of the thickest, hardiest ones I have had. You really should stop at one cookie, but I just couldn't! The only thing I would have to liked was to have the Peanut Butter Chip cookie have more of a peanut butter based cookie for even more peanut butter flavor. I was very satisfied with all of the others.

The cookies come to you fresh and have about a 2 week shelf life. They freeze excellently for you to enjoy as well.
You can purchase the cookies in packs of 4 for $23.95 plus $5 S/H or 6 packs for $35.95 free S/H
Pick and choose your assortment of cookies by the 5 per pack.

Fantastic for Graduates, Dads, a hearty Thank You.. or just to say I am thinking of you! This would be a fantastic idea for your Graduates once they are out in the dorm life! Send them great cookies to hoard themselves or share with their friends. I am putting this under the Grad Gift ideas because I think it is a perfect fit!

The Promise Box by Tricia Goyer *Review & Amish Baking Box Giveaway

Every year, young Amish men descend on the cozy little town of West Kootenai, Montana, arriving in the spring to live there for six months and receive ‘resident’ status for the hunting season in the fall. They arrive as bachelors, but go home with brides! Lydia Wyse, a book editor from Seattle who grew up Amish, returns to the small community of West Kootenai, Montana to give comfort to her father after her mother’s death.
She is drawn back to the familiar Amish ways after finding her mother’s most precious possession, a Promise Box of prayers and scripture. What her publisher sees, though, is an opportunity for a sensational ‘tell-all’ book about the Amish. Lydia soon finds herself falling in love with Amish bachelor Gideon Hooley. She wants nothing more than to forget her past and look forward to a future as an Amish bride. Will the pain of her childhood—and her potential betrayal of her community—keep her from committing her whole heart?

Purchase a copy here.

My Thoughts:
One thing that stood out to me greatly in this Amish fiction novel was the realization that even among the Amish, there are different groups of people with a different view of God. There are those groups that focus more on the rules and laws, rather than the relationship.. much like our own Christian churches in the 'English' world. There are those in the Amish that fully understand the relationship of Christ, and seek His face daily, and there are those that are steeped in tradition and forsake what the best part of their faith can be. They really aren't that different than us in that way. Despite the adversity, we can see in the novel how God worked out Lydia and Gideon's life for the best, and clearly had His hand on their lives from the very beginning.
True joy can only be found in Christ and Tricia Goyer does a great job at directing our attention to the characters who have found that joy, and those who are still seeking it and there is a noteable difference in their behavior.

Doteable College Dorm Subscription Box *Review & Giveaway

We have done our job, graduated our first son. Now he will be off to college. Here is where Doteable comes in.
Doteable is a monthly subscription box for college aged students. A essentials box to make sure their needs are covered, and to remind them they are loved!

My son was super excited about a box that was designed for his needs. He has seen me review other subscription boxes, but this one was 'cool'. The box had supplies for shaving, which all young men will utilize. It also had a new pair of underpants and socks! Now we know they are not going to go out and purchase new undergarments on their own, so this ensures in a Mama's heart that they are being covered!

A note is enclosed to let them know what goodies are in their box and how to use them.

The shaving cream smelled wonderful! I told him he should use that before his big party later this week!

Each month Doteable's Essential Duffel contains over $70 worth of products. You can sign up for a subscription that renews each month, and can cancel at anytime. There are Guy and Gal Duffels, and you can gift a subscription to that graduate now! What a super Grad gift idea. A gift that lets them know you are thinking about them all year long.

My son really enjoyed it and mentioned that we should get him a subscription!
You can purchase the original Dorm Duffel for $45 a month, or a Mini for $15.

The Offering by Angela Hunt *Review and Nook HD Giveaway

About the Book

After growing up as an only child, Amanda Lisandra wants a big family. But since she and her soldier husband can't afford to have more children right away, Mandy decides to earn money as a gestational carrier for a childless couple. She loves being pregnant, and while carrying the child she dreams of having her own son and maybe another daughter. . .
Just when the nearly perfect pregnancy is about to conclude, unexpected tragedy enters Mandy's world and leaves her reeling. Devastated by grief, she surrenders the child she was carrying and struggles to regain her emotional equilibrium.

Two years later she studies a photograph of the baby she bore and wonders if the unthinkable has happened---could she have inadvertently given away her own biological child? Over the next few months Mandy struggles to decide between the desires of her grief-stricken heart and what's best for the little boy she has never known.

My Thoughts:
I think this is the first book I have read with a subject of being a surrogate mother. What an emotional decision! I actually do know a mom who was one, but it was for the love of it, not for monetary compensation. I had a hard time with the concept of Mandy putting herself out there to help a family she didn't know, to make as much in a year as her husband does, in my opinon because she wanted a house. This book really made me think about what is important in life. This will be a book that you will struggle with in your mind and thoughts about what you would do. Not a light, easy read, but definitely one that puts out there some very real, and heart wrenching issues.
On a side note I thought it was fun that there were Latin American's and French speaking people in the book, and the author used 3 different languages in her text, now there is talent!

Murder at Castle Rock by Anne Marie Stoddard

About the Book:

As the manager and booking agent for Atlanta’s famous Castle Rock concert venue, Amelia “Ame” Grace is ready for the most exciting week of her career: she’s booked three shows and a live DVD-filming for the comeback tour of none other than the eighties Pop Rock Prince himself, Bobby Glitter! Before the rock star can take a bow on the first night, however, trouble steals the show as Castle Rock’s owner takes a deadly tumble from atop the venue’s rear tower. To make matters worse, the police suspect foul play—and all signs point to two of Castle Rock’s own employees. Ame is in a race against time to clear the names of her friends and uncover the truth before the killer decides it’s curtains for her too!

 My Thoughts:
The setting for this cozy mystery was a concert venue in an older building that resembled a castle. I loved the setting with the different levels of the building and the names that the author gave to each. It was unique in I hadn't read any books lately with the rock and roll theme to it. I love cozy mysteries because I can be a sleuth and try to figure out ahead of time who dunit.. without feeling scared like in a thriller.
The author did a good job at keeping me guessing who the killer was, yet at the same time throwing out hints. The main characters had good depth to them. I enjoyed Ameila and Kat's characters as I could watch them grow in compassion for each other and the people who worked with them. I did get confused a little bit with the amount of secondary characters between the interviewer and his cohorts, the investigation crew, and Bobby Glitter's entourage.

There was a bit of language and sexual implications and drug use.

About the Author:

Aside from my friends and family, I’m passionate about two things: writing and live music. When I can bring the two together, my life feels complete. I hadn’t written fiction since 6th grade until 2011 (because, of course, I’d replaced this creative outlet with live music performance while I played the saxophone from 6th grade through the end of college). I was fortunate enough to win the 2012 AJC Decatur Book Festival & BookLogix Publishing Services, Inc. Writing Contest with my manuscript for “Murder At Castle Rock,” and as a result, the novel will be published in March 2013. Being published has been a dream of mine since I began writing stories about the Easter Bunny in kindergarten–so, needless to say, I am beside myself with joy over this opportunity! I am currently working on several other projects, including a sequel to “Murder At Castle Rock” and another mystery series that takes place in the art world.
This book is the first in the Amelia Grace music industry thriller series and was the winner of the 2012 AJC Decatur Book Festival & BookLogix Publishing Services, Inc. Writing Contest.
