Goodbye to Yesterday by Wanda Brunstetter
Wanda Brunstetter's latest book is actually in 6 parts, with one being released each month. The Lancaster Saga includes 6 small books. I am glad I don't have to wait long for the next book to come out, but these are just enough to wet your whistle with Wanda's wonderful depiction of Amish life.
Bird in Hand Pennsylvania finds Luke and Meredith Stoltzfus married just over a year. Luke has been using his woodworking skills in the local furniture store, enjoying what he is able to create. The economy turned sour and Luke has now been out of work for over 6 months. The stress is getting to Luke and he and Meredith are argueing much more, and Luke always seems to be depressed.
Uncle Amos from Middleburg Indiana gives Luke a call. Amos wishes to retire from his gravestone engraving business, but with no sons to carry on the work, he prefers to sell it to a family member. He asks Luke to consider coming to IN to learn the business and pay for it as he begins to earn a living. The chance Luke has been waiting for to get back to work excites him. There is no way he can pass it up, even if it means being away from Meredith for a couple of weeks.
Meredith suspects she is pregnant but decides to wait and tell Luke when he returns. With Luke and Meredith's parents being in the local community, Meredith is going to be fine with Luke gone. There is an approaching snowstorm that has Meredith worried though, as it comes right where Luke will need to travel.
Luke makes it to Philly with a delay as he waits for his connection...
A cliffhanger ending.. of course!
As we wait for book two The Silence of Winter
