No Safe Harbor
Edge of FreedomNew York City 1897
"She came to America searching for her brother. Instead all she's found is a web of danger"
Cara leaves Ireland and the condemnation given her family name, to come to America to search for her twin brother Eoghan.
As soon as she clears registration on Ellis Island, Rourke catches her name and considers she may know the whereabouts of the man he seeks revenge on. Little does he know, that he will come to love this red head from Ireland.
In a twist of fate, Cara lands in the middle of a feud of families that ties in with everyone she seems to meet. People seem to come out of the 'woodwork' that we later see are related and tied in to the dispute.
Just when she thinks she can trust someone, she finds they are after her brother as well. Hidden secrets and political party lines stretch the ocean as the various characters seek justice. Cara simply wants to find her brother.
Through all of this Cara wonders where God is, as she struggles and struggles to find her way in a new country. She learns to hear more clearly, the voice of God who has not left, but is always guiding her.
Loved this historical fiction novel with all of the Irish names and dialogue! Just enough history to keep the story flowing, but much more focus on the characters and the search for Cara's brother Eoghan, by more people than Cara even realizes. Mystery, intrigue, keeps you guessing who is on the up and up and who needs to be watched.
Elizabeth Ludwig does an excellent job in character development with Cara, and you will enjoy watching her grow in this new adventure.
